Vietnamese is the first language of around 86 million people; Thai is the preferred language of 40 million more. Conversations in these languages play a growing role in global business and international trade. 

That’s why we’re so excited to announce that we’ve added both Vietnamese and Thai to the DeepL platform!

Vietnamese is one of two languages, along with Hebrew, that we’ve launched for all versions of DeepL Translator. We’re making Thai available in an early access version through the DeepL API. We’ll be bringing it to our DeepL Translator web, mobile, and desktop apps soon.

The introduction of Vietnamese and Thai is a direct response to demand we’re hearing from our customers, especially in manufacturing.

Adding these languages will enable teams to communicate swiftly and effectively with colleagues and partners across the Asia-Pacific region.

DeepL's approach to right-to-left (RTL) languages: Hebrew, Arabic, and beyond

Hebrew is the second RTL language to go live on DeepL, following our successful launch of Arabic. It shows how the techniques we’ve adopted to work with different character sets and text directions help expand the range of languages that our LLMs can work with. 

We’re using those techniques to expand the DeepL experience in other ways as well. 

Arabic is available for DeepL document translation, and we’ve seen very positive responses from customers. It’s exciting to see how high-quality translations are making a massive difference for Arabic speakers and people doing business with them. 

That includes keeping all document formatting and layouts intact, a key RTL language translation need.

Traditional Chinese and more: DeepL document translation keeps expanding

DeepL document translation also supports Traditional Chinese. It’s the written language for around 28.4 million people and another language with a crucial role in pan-Asian trade.

With the launch of Vietnamese, Thai, and Hebrew, DeepL translates in 36 languages. All 36 of these languages are live on DeepL's cutting-edge model, so you get enhanced precision when translating them.
