We’ve added 3 new languages to DeepL, in another blow to language barriers
Vietnamese is the first language of around 86 million people. Thai is the preferred language of 40 million more. Conversations in these languages play a growing role in global business and international trade, which is why we’re so excited to announce that we’ve added both to the DeepL platform!
Vietnamese is one of two languages — along with Hebrew — that we’re launching for all versions of DeepL Translator. We’re making Thai available, in an early access version, through the DeepL API, and we’ll be bringing it to our DeepL Translator web, mobile and desktop apps soon.
The introduction of Vietnamese and Thai is a direct response to demand we’re hearing from our customers — especially from manufacturing clients. Adding these languages will enable teams to communicate swiftly and effectively with colleagues and partners across the Asia-Pacific region
Building our reach in right-to-left languages
Hebrew is now the second right-to-left language to go live on DeepL, following our successful launch of Arabic last year. It shows how the techniques we’ve adopted to work with different character sets and text directions are helping to expand the range of languages that our LLMs can work with.
We’re using those techniques to expand the experience of DeepL in other ways, as well. Arabic is now available for DeepL document translation, and we’ve seen very positive early response from customers to this. It’s exciting to see how high-quality translations — with all document formatting and layouts intact — are making such a difference for Arabic speakers and those doing business with them.
Introducing document translation for Chinese
Today, we’re also announcing DeepL document translation for Traditional Chinese, the written language for around 28.4 million people and another language with a crucial role to play in international trade across Asia.
With the launch of Vietnamese, Thai, and Hebrew, DeepL now translates in 36 languages. All 36 of these languages are now live on DeepL's next-generation model, which means that users get enhanced precision when translating them. Language experts prefer translations from our next gen LLMs 1.3x more often than Google Translate, 1.7x more often than ChatGPT-4 and 2.3x more often than Microsoft.
