Helping WWF Switzerland speak up for nature in every language it needs

Securing a sustainable future for all life on earth depends on tackling the world’s most complex environmental challenges. The more complex those challenges are, the greater the requirement for a precise, nuanced and inclusive grasp of language to build consensus around them. Indeed, speaking up for nature is much more effective when you speak the language that resonates with all of your constituents. And for that, WWF Switzerland has turned to DeepL.

WWF Switzerland has today announced that it is deploying DeepL across its operations. This includes lobbying efforts that are crucial for engaging with organizations, industries and local stakeholders. In short, everyone involved in building a future where humanity can live in harmony with nature.

Why did WWF Switzerland choose DeepL?

WWF Switzerland will use DeepL in daily communications as well as in media relations and fundraising efforts. And DeepL’s grasp of complex terminology will play a crucial role in the research that WWF’s Environmental Department conducts.

“Securing a future for people and nature must involve tackling the world’s most complex environmental issues, and that relies on effective communication,” explains Pierrette Rey, WWF Switzerland spokesperson. “It’s important for WWF to be able to communicate expertly and inclusively with everyone involved in these challenges, and to do so in a way that’s clear, compelling and resonates with each audience.”

Accuracy, confidentiality and precise technical understanding are crucial for the effectiveness of WWF Switzerland’s work. So, too, is a grasp of tone and context in different languages. DeepL’s specialized Language AI stood out from other machine translation options for its ability to deliver sensitive, expert and human-sounding translations, everywhere they’re needed:

  • The DeepL glossary feature and glossaries generator are hugely important capabilities for WWF Switzerland. They enable its employees to standardize translations of complex scientific terminology, enabling collaboration with other institutes, and clear communication within the country and other international bodies.
  • Seamless integrations with Microsoft 365 and other productivity tools mean that WWF Switzerland employees can access DeepL translations wherever and whenever they need them — for instance when emailing colleagues or media contacts, or localizing fundraising and awareness campaigns.
  • DeepL’s advanced security features, including Single Sign On (SSO) for secure authentication at scale, enable WWF Switzerland to deploy Language AI with confidence that all information remains fully secure.

“We had tried other machine translation options but found they couldn’t deliver the consistency and accuracy that we need in our communication,” explains Pierrette. “By breaking down language barriers and ensuring clear and open communication, DeepL is transforming the global impact that we can have.”

We are thrilled to be working closely with WWF Switzerland to support their global mission, and drive efficiencies and understanding through shared language.
