New Glossary feature opens DeepL Translator customization
Cologne, Germany, May 6th, 2020
In order to provide top translation quality in every scenario, German AI technology company DeepL has released their first tool for customizing DeepL Translator: the Glossary. This feature allows the user to influence the results produced by DeepL Translator by defining how a specific term should be translated. Nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, and even multi-word entries can be added to the Glossary and the algorithm will adapt the translations in terms of grammar and context, ensuring that the integrity and fluidity of the translation is not compromised.
Professionals working in sectors with specific language and jargon have often expressed wishes for the ability to customize the translations they get from DeepL Translator. Legal, technical, and/or scientific terminology, as well as aspects of company style guides, can be entered into the Glossary and will then be correctly and consistently applied in translation. This increased control provides invaluable benefits in terms of accuracy and efficiency.
“We are very pleased to give our users more influence on how our technology works for them,” said DeepL CEO Jaroslaw Kutylowski. “Our new Glossary feature is an exciting advance that gives people more control over machine translation and opens new possibilities for how DeepL’s technology can facilitate communication.”
The Glossary can be viewed at any time by clicking the “Customization” button on DeepL Translator. The user can then add, edit, and delete translation pairs to make sure that the Glossary is always up to date. In future, it will be possible to share Glossaries between team members.
As of today, the ability to influence DeepL Translator’s choice of words is available to DeepL Pro subscribers and free users alike on DeepL.com. Without a subscription, the number of possible Glossary pairs is limited, whereas DeepL Pro subscribers may create as many as they like. The Glossary feature is available for translations between German and English, and English and French, with further language combinations to be added in future.
