A new approach to translating with DeepL

Cologne, Germany, September 12th, 2019

Germany’s leading AI company, DeepL, today unveils a new way to use their machine translation technology: direct integration into Windows and Mac operating systems. Millions of people enjoy DeepL’s unparalleled translation quality—as evidenced by each day’s 7 billion translated characters. Making the translation technology accessible wherever it’s needed helps DeepL users work even faster.

“The need for high-quality translations is not limited to a website, so neither should the solution be,” said CEO Jaroslaw Kutylowski. “We looked at how our users are translating and created a tool that streamlines the process and expands the scope of where DeepL can be useful.”

The software operates in the background and can be activated with a keyboard shortcut; there’s no need to copy text to the website and back in order to use the translation. The integration creates a direct connection between DeepL and any Windows or Mac computer.

Translations can be called up at any time, without ever leaving the program or application. The user need only select the text to be translated and press ⌘C (Mac) or Ctrl+C (Windows) twice. DeepL then displays the translation, along with alternatives. One final click inserts the translation into the user’s text.

“This integration represents a further step in our quest to provide high-quality AI solutions to everyday language problems,” said Kutylowski. “By opening up new avenues to use DeepL, we hope to see even more people expressing themselves, sharing information, and making new connections.”

The DeepL software supports the same 72 language combinations as on DeepL.com, as well as providing the much-loved alternate translations, synonyms, and other formulations. New languages will automatically become available once added to DeepL. Subscribers to premium service DeepL Pro can sign into their accounts via the software. The software is free to download at marketplace.deepl-partners.com.
